Psalm 139:14
Worksheet PDF: How our Bodies Work
In Psalm 139, King David talks about how amazing God is for having created people so lovingly and carefully…we’re going to think more about that later, but today lets have a think about how amazing our bodies are.
I love to exercise and to stretch, I love activities where I can move around. But sometimes I get a frustrated that I can’t do all the things I want to do. Like many people, I’ve been struggling to adapt to working from home. I’ve mentioned on our schools blog how much I miss my figure skating and how I’m trying to keep my fitness levels up by working out and stretching when I can. After a couple months of stretching, and while I know it’s good for me, I’d hoped to see a bit more progress. Things still seem to be going slowly.
I’m having to learn to be patient, to not rush my body and end up hurting myself. To help, I’m trying to be positive and think about what my body can do, instead of it’s limitations.
Even though we’re all built the same way, our bodies are all different. Some people are more flexible than others, some people develop muscle faster or slower, some people can use all of their bodies well, while others need to use mobility aids to get around. Regardless of our level of activity or mobility, our bodies are incredible things, so instead of focusing on what we can’t do, let’s see if we can focus on what we can do.
Take a look at our downloadable worksheet, spend sometime reflecting on the quote from Psalm139. Put aside complaints about your body and instead focus on what we can be thankful for.
Here are some ideas for things you could add to your sheet:
Concentrate on your breathing, your lungs are working hard to give you oxygen.
Feel your pulse, your heart keeps on working hard to move blood around your body.
Look closely at your eye, notice all the different colours.
Feel the texture of your skin,
Wiggle your toes,
Stretch you arms,
Pay attention to your thoughts, your imagination.
Whatever you can do,thank God for it. Ask Him for patience for the things you feel frustrated about and take good care of yourself as best you can.
