You can download today’s reflective worksheet here: What are you carrying?

I wonder if you’ve ever carried a heavy backpack around. It’s not comfortable is it? The longer you have it on for, the heavier it feels and the further you walk with it, the worse it gets, until you might feel that you can’t go on any further!

Did you know that worries and cares can be a bit like that heavy backpack? They weigh on our minds and hearts and make it hard for us to keep on going. But worries and cares are also a part of our lives – everyone will experience them from time to time. So, what can we do in those times? Who can help us?

The Bible tells us that we don’t have to carry these things alone. God is always there to help us! To help us understand this, one of Jesus’ closest disciples wrote:

Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you

1 Peter 5:7

Now, sometimes we might be tempted to think that God is too important to care about the things that bother us, or that He wants us to sort it all out on our own – but that’s not what this verse says. God doesn’t tell us to be superpeople who never find things difficult. He just calls us to trust in Him and ask Him for help every time that we need it. That’s what trusting God really looks like.

So maybe you’d like to give trusting God a try today? Why not take some time to think about any worries or cares that you’re carrying around at the moment. You can write or draw them on the reflection sheet – there are even some prompts that might help you.

Then take some time to talk to God about them, and ask Him to carry them for you. Ask Him to help you to trust Him every day, and to give you peace when things are difficult.

You can do this activity more than once and as often as you need to. Sometimes we need to remember to stop holding onto our burdens and give them over to God – I hope that this activity can be a helpful reminder for you to keep on trusting in the one who cares for you.
